Lead Recreation Assistant (Lifeguard)

The Lead Recreation Assistant (Lifeguard) position serves the Assistant Head Lifeguard at one of the two protected beach units, taking responsibility of the operation of the protected beach, the safety of the visitors and leading up to seven lifeguards in the absence of the head lifeguard. The Lead Recreation Assistant (Lifeguard) performs lifeguard services during assigned tours of duty, including search and rescue, lifesaving, preventive lifeguarding and providing appropriate care to injured and ill visitors The Lead Recreation Assistant (Lifeguard) is required to complete daily in-service physical training consisting of soft sand running and ocean swimming. The Lead Recreation Assistant (Lifeguard) prepares rescue reports, maintains records and follows procedures consistent with park policies. Position Location:
Assateague Island National Seashore is located on the eastern coast of Maryland and Virginia, approximately 130 miles east of Washington, DC. The area is largely rural, with numerous small towns and the seaside resorts of Ocean City, MD and Chincoteague, VA nearby. Complete shopping and medical services are available as are public and private schools. The small city of Salisbury, MD is about 30 miles west of the headquarters area and has shopping centers, a university and a large hospital. These positions are responsible for responding to emergency water related calls in and outside of the protected beach zones. The lifeguards are the initial and primary responders for water related emergencies and for injured or ill park visitors. Due to the critical nature of this position and the impact on visitor health and safety, a CPR and an Emergency Medical Responder certification is required for this position. Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position. - AND - SELECTIVE FACTOR:
The positions are responsible for training staff in ocean/surf lifeguard skills starting on their EOD. Ocean/Surf Lifeguard Experience is required. Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position. - AND - To qualify for this position at the GS-5 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities, but not limited to:
Responsible for patrolling and providing lifesaving services to the public at a pool or beach facility, perform the duties and responsibilities of a Recreation Assistant (Lifeguard), that includes patrolling and providing lifesaving services to the public at a pool or beach facility, develop and conduct lifeguard and lifesaving training for a staff of Recreation Assistants (Lifeguard), managing a pool or beach facility that includes a staff of lifeguards, serve as a swim instructor/coach. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in courses related to Sports and Recreation Management, Sports and Recreation Studies, Coaching, Sport Recreation and Fitness Administration, etc. You must include transcripts You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, I have 6 months of the specialized experience described above (50% of the experience requirement), and one and a half academic years of directly-related graduate level education (50% of the qualifying education). Experience:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as varies.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
