50 an hour POSITION SUMMARY The Public Safety Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment in and around the building and grounds and protection of patients, employees, visitors and property.
This position reports to the stie manager.

Operational Excellence Serves as a resource for and assists associates on myriad of public safety and security issues.

Leadership & Stewardship Uphold and consistently represent the values, mission, and policies of the organization at all times.
Uphold and ensure compliance with and attention to all corporate policies and procedures, as well as the mission and values of the organization.
PRIMARY TASKS AND DUTIES Patrols designated areas by foot to identify and report safety hazards, detect potential problems, identify violations of laws and ordinances and unusual conditions.
Maintains a visible presence to deter crime.
Responds to calls for service and evaluates the situation and determines appropriate course of action.
Liaisons with local law enforcement when necessary.
Engages, as appropriate with clinical staff in making determinations for the appropriate course of action.
Conducts preliminary and follow up investigations by interviewing and obtaining statements, collects and preserves evidence when necessary.
Mediates disputes and provides assistance when possible in order to maintain a calm and orderly environment.
Operates a variety of communication equipment to obtain, report and verify information.
This may include, but is not limited to radio transmissions and monitoring CCTV surveillance footage.
Prepares a variety of detailed reports and forms to support activities and investigations.
Enforces institutional regulations and notifies local law enforcement when deemed appropriate.
Inspects and maintains assigned equipment and clothing.
Participates as instructed in specialized unit activities such as crime prevention, recertification instruction, investigations, and/or special events.
Completes assigned in-class and/or electronic educational regulatory compliance training courses, as deemed appropriate for position.
These courses include, but are not limited to:
Public Safety policies and procedures; emergency codes and related response; education which provides the baseline for clinical reference for the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) and clinical restraint education.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/KEY COMPETENCIES General knowledge of citizens' rights and responsibilities Skill in detecting situations imperiling public safety Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing To operate two-way radios and telephones in a variety of environments Computer literate w/general knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and use of CCTV software To apply knowledge, experience, and reason to arrive at prompt and effective decisions for both routine and critical situations to show sensitivity in interactions with a diverse populations To maintain composure and demonstrate restraint in stressful and potentially dangerous situations To perform extensive sitting standing, and walking To establish and maintain effective working relationships To follow oral and written directions To provide guidance to others To respond to emergency situations requiring physical stamina To work in and wear personal protective equipment To conduct preliminary and follow up investigations To attain Healthcare Security Officer Certification within one year of employment.
